GRAPE SEED EXTRACT

FEATURED ARTICLE:

Grape seeds contain the most powerful antioxidants known to science. grape seed EXTRACT can protect us against inflammation and inhibits certain proteolytic enzymes. The European medical community makes use of the vascular strengthening ability of grape seed in the treatment of a wide variety of disorders involving the circulatory system such as venous insufficiency, varicose veins and diabetic retinopathy. GRAPE SEED EXTRACT provides a treatment option for many disorders where there are few, if any, effective drugs available.

HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE
One of the earliest known records of the use of OPC’s (the active phytochemical in Grape Seed Extract) is from the writings of the French explorer Jacques Cartier. In the winter of 1534, Cartier’s expedition was blocked from leaving Canada by the iced-over St. Lawrence River. Unable to get supplies, his crew was lacking fresh fruits and vegetables. Existing mostly on salted meat and biscuits, the explorers were being ravaged by scurvy. More than half of the crew were seriously ill and some had died. A Native American Indian named Agaya, from the Quebec Nation, told Cartier of a tea made from the bark and needles of pine trees. Remarkably, after drinking this tea, the crew began improving in a few days time.
About 400 years later, French scientist, Professor Jacques Masquelier at the University of Bordeaux began investigating the pine trees after reading about Cartier’s experiences. He found that the pine needles contained a small amount of Vitamin C and that the bark provided OPC’s (oligomeric proanthocyanidin complexes). These Phytochemicals (plant chemicals) greatly enhance the effects of Vitamin C in treating scurvy. Masquelier had discovered the most powerful antioxidant ever found! He called it “Pycnogenol” (now a registered trademark). Not wanting to strip the maritime pine trees of their bark, Dr. Masquelier looked for other plants that might contain OPC’s. He found an even stronger source in grape seeds.
OPC’s are a mixture of bioflavanoids. The major commercial sources for OPC’s are still grape seeds and the bark of maritime pine trees. They may also be called PCO’s (Procyanidolic oligomers). No matter what the source or the name, they are a very useful and effective natural health product. OPC’s from grape seeds are the most powerful antioxidant yet discovered. These free radical scavengers also strengthen the vascular system, inhibit certain proteolytic enzymes and potentiate vitamin C, making it much more effective.
